This dish is legendary. The warm spices and the rich flavors will take you all the way to Jerusalem. This is home memories for me, the aroma of the cumin, onion, cinnamon… are just so special. A little fresh salad on the side is all you need to complete this beautiful meal.
1). Bring water to a boil and Cook lentils for 15 minutes, drain.
2). In a wide pot, start sautéing the onions until golden brown. About 5-7 minutes. Add the spices and mix for 30 seconds. Then add the rice and mix for another two minutes. Eventually add the lentils and 1 ½ cups water and wait for bubbles.
3). Place a clean kitchen towel underneath the pot cover and cook on a very low flame for 15 minutes. Turn off the fire and leave the pot close for another 10 minutes.
