Clean Fridge for Eating-It all Starts From Here!

We all aim to have a healthy lifestyle, starting our day with a colorful plate full of fresh fruits and munch on green veggies throughout the day. Often times though,  we find ourselves struggling where to even start!  When do we shop?  Where is the best place? Which day of the week? How much of each item? Should I buy frozen? Should I buy fresh? “OK, So Now that I have the shopping bags all staring at me what do I cook?”

Don’t panic, let’s get organized here! I’m going to share with you my secrets to plan your produce shoppings for the week.

This is how you start:

  • Whichever day works for you best make a list of the food you would like to cook this coming week (dinner/lunch).
  • Based on that “menu”  list make your ingredients shopping list.
  • Go on a day that you can buy everything at once. This way you’ll never run to the store for one missing item.
  • Make sure you by things that you can use for multiple dishes. For example, celery, onion, and carrot are a good base for almost anything.
  • Don’t be afraid to buy big quantity of fresh greens like spinach and kale. If you plan your menu right it will not go to waste.  You can use it for a salad for lunch, for a smoothie for breakfast or for a soup for dinner.
  • If you still find that you have too much of it just divide it into portions in small zip-top bags and keep it in the freezer ready for use at any time.
  • Clean your fresh herbs as soon as you come home. This way you can add them to any dish.
  • Always have precooked pasta. (I use whole wheat, no one knows the difference in taste).
  • Always have precooked quinoa. You can make a salad in seconds or stir-fry!
  • Make your own almond milk if you can.  It will change your life!
  • Have your ingredients organized in front of your eyes so you can see what you have everytime you open the fridge.
  • Make your homemade tahini sauce every few days. Add it to your salads or breakfast sandwich.
  • Some things are worth buying frozen: Peas, Corn, cut string beans
  • Never throw anything just because you don’t know what to do with it.  Get creative, open your mind (and fridge:) and try new flavors.
